Marriage Equality: One Year Later

love_winsJoaquin Tenedora-Forte

June 28, 2016

As we know June 26 marks the historic decision of the Supreme Court, that brought down same sex marriage bans. Making it so Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual people have the same rights as every person does, in marriage. The question becomes, what’s next?

Do not get me wrong. the LGBT community had made their biggest strive. Marriage equality can not be change for now. But there is some smaller fights that needed to be won.

As we all probably know in twenty plus states had no protection, what so ever, for its gay and lesbian citizens. You can get married on Saturday, post on FaceBook on Sunday and get fired on Monday. That is why the passage of the employment and housing non discrimination is so important. So that gay and lesbian people, (and Bisexual people in a same sex relationship) will never go through discrimination.

After the US got marriage for gay, lesbian and bisexual citizens it became less acceptable to discriminate agains Gay and Bisexual people. It became okay to discriminate agains Transgender people in the bathroom. Conservatives states like North Carolina pass laws that state that people should go to the bathroom of their birth and not as they identify as. how will this be implemented. I DO NOT KNOW. What about the FTM or female to male transgender.

I will not finish this article without tackling the big elephant in the room, What happened in Orlando two weeks ago which killed 49 souls is one of the biggest thing that happened to the gay community, and one of the worst hate crimes in US history. What should the LGBT community need to do to combat hate is to come out of the closet, the more LGBT people the general population knows the less chance for the community to get attack.

Lastly, The LGBT community had injured a lot of things in the process of coming in to this point. Finally, lets combat hate by love, and loving everyone not just white gay men, but every buddy else.

Reacting to Will Shepherd’s PTSD video

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte
June 23, 2016

WILL

I have been meaning to write this article/letter since last week. But Because of what happen in Orlando. I delay it. Will Shepherd had been a huge part of my life for the last year. He and his spouse RJ thought me that fighting for gay rights is the right thing to do. Will has PTSD and will be suffering from a mental illness for his entire life. This is my letter of appreciation to Will.
Dear Will,

First of all, I want to say that I have daily vlogs withdrawal for a month now, haha. But I know that you are at a better place right now. Because of your PTSD you may have a hard time vlogging. I know that this is the right thing to do for you.

You and RJ have shared bits and pieces of your mental health journey in the daily vlogs. But we (your viewers) did not know how much you suffer in the hands of somebody who supposed to love and protect you.

The PTSD video is so powerful and painful at the same time. I applaud your honesty in the video. I may not have PTSD, but I know that the abuse that you encountered is no joke. The people who new must protect you. The person who did it should go to prison.

Will, Your a such a strong person. Many people might say, screw it I am not dealing with this I will not excel at school or worse I will just take my own life, no one cares if I die.But with you, you own your happiness, that is what is great about you.

I just want to thank you for what you did, the video for me is one of the best I ever seen in a long while. Also for the daily vlogs. You thought me to be brave and to own my happiness.

Send my love to RJ

Love
JOAQUIN

PS, You should really change your last name to Aguiar

5 Important LGBT events

Gay_flag.png

Joquin Tenedora-Forte

June 9, 2016

As we all probably know this month is LGBT pride month. We are celebrating LGBT history, It is this month that we talk about what happen during the marriage inequality. we do answer where we are today if it’s not for the people who sacrifice in order for us to live our life as it is. so I am here to discuss three major events that happened in LGBT history.

  1. Stonewall uprising- Stonewall was not the first uprising of the  gay movement, it was the major one though because it was broadcast all over the america. In the early morning of June 28, 1969, there have been rioting at a gay bar own by the mafia, The police raided the bar, but gay men and women fought back, The next day the cops come again, but the LGBT people fought hard.
  1. AIDS epidemic- The AIDS epidemic is the hardest thing that happened to LGBT people particularly gay men.Because of the erasure of the gay community, by people like President Ronald Reagan who never spoken about the AIDS epidemic until the late 80’s

3.   The election and assignation of Harvey Milk- Harvey Milk is the first     openly gay state supervisor. He was a true leader. But after only a year of he was assented by former state supervisor Dan White.

4. Lawrence Vs. Texas case 2003- This is in my opinion is the most important case in LGBT history, because when you can not legalise some that is illegal to begin with. i.e. same sex marriage. It came one year before Massachusetts became the the first to legalise marriage between two people of the same gender.

5. Marriage equality -2015.,  Obergafell vs Hudges, this is the happiest case in gay history, This is the culmination of four and a half decades of fighting for recognition. Recognition of Life and Love from Stonewall onwards.

So this are five events that change the corse of a generation. What are your favourite LGBT events Tweet me @joaquinwrites. Please you may not forget them….

Humans are humans

A poem by  Joaquin Tenedora-Forte
January 25, 2016

Humans are humans even if

They are black

They are white

They are Asians

They are Latino’s

They need equal treatment of the law

No stops

No Freaks

No illegals

Humans are humans even if

They are rich

They are middle class

They are poor

They need medical attention

They need to be able to access free higher education

Humans are are humans even if

They have autism

They have cerebral palsy

They have Down syndrome

They are blind

They are deaf

They are lame

They need affordable medical attention

They need reasonable education

Humans are humans even if

They are gay

They are bisexual

They are transgender

They are asexual

They need full equal/civil rights

They need to not thrown out for being who they are

They need to not be fired for being who they are

Humans are humans so

They need love

They need respect

They need empathy

They need understanding

Martin Luther King day!

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

January 18, 2015

Today we celebrate a very special man and his name is Martin Luther King Jr. A man who fight oppression. He had a dream, a dream of equality for all, that reaches far beyond race. His legacy of peace, love and Justice is very much alive until this day. So to commemorate MLK’s legacy, I will be recreating his I Have A Dream speech, with my own dreams for humanity. So here is it, enjoy

  O
I have a dream (my version)
I have a dream that we can love the person that we love without fear of rejection from our families.

I have a dream that we can hold hands with the person we love with out judgement from other people.

I have a dream that our (the US) immigration system is not broken people have so that people can go home to their home countries.

I have a dream that every boy and girl can be able to express themselves without being ridiculed.

I have a dream that blacks and whites, Asians and Latinos, are treated fairly under the law.

I have a dream that we can have clean and just elections, free from corruptions.

I have a dream that we end the unnecessary wars we should not be involved in.

I have a dream that we should end our ties with countries that are oppressing its citizens for being who they are.

I have a dream that people are free to say what ever they want and not be punished.

I have a dream that people are not shot on the streets of Chicago.

I have a dream of peace and love for all the citizens of the world.

Lastly, I hope that Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy will live not just today but each and everyday. Finally, Martin Luther King is one of my inspirations

Happy Birthday Will Shepherd

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

January 6, 2016

As you probably know that I love a YouTubers Shep689, specially Will Shepherd. And today is Will’s birthday so I want to do some sort of tribute for him. Will is such an amazing, smart young man. He and his fiancé RJ are getting married May of this year. I want to write Will’s life story. Note: this is what I know only.

William Ross Shepherd was born in Tallahassee Florida on January 6, 1989, to your average American family. He has an older brother named Bob who is 8 years older than him. As a young boy Will did not want to do normal country stuff like playing sports, He only preferred to play video games and trade Pokemon cards with friends. It alienate him with his father who thought that it was strange.

Will’s life at school has not been different. He was a great student but he was also greatly bullied, the kids were being violent at him, pushing him around, this was especially evident at the school bus where he will receive some of the worst touting. It was really rough for him.

In high school at the aged of. 14, he came out of the closet to his friends the bullying stopped instantly. He graduated in the top of his class. He entered Florida State University majoring in mathematics and Statistics. And there he met RJ In the LGBT youth center at campus.

Will was out to his mom since he was 16, but his father did not know. His father wanted Will to come join him at his job. At his resume states he is volunteering at the LGBT youth center. His father began asking questions, they have a big fight about it and become the last straw to break down his parents marriage.

Lastly, Despite all this that happened to him as a young child, he is a positive young person. That is why I love him. Finally, I want to say this, happy birthday Will, best wishes on the wedding

How liberals and conservatives thinks of morality

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

January 4, 2016

If you have been reading this blog you will notice that I am a big liberal, at least socially. I had been asking my self why am I liberal. And what are the difference between a conservative and a liberal in their morals. So that I can better understand people who are conservative.

Conservatives are more traditional in their nature. They are more sex negative. They are more concerned with tradition than actual people’s lives. Conservative people are least open minded, specially for people who are different and weird, like LGBT people, they are not very much for drug legalization. They are more likely to be uber religious.

There is this thing called Libertarians, a libertarian is pretty much a high breed between a conservative and a liberal. They are mostly conservatives but in some issues like drug legalizations. For me a libertarian person is better than a conservative person. Just because they a libertarian believes in the principle of do what ever you want to do, unless you are hurting some buddy else.

A liberal values fairness over tradition. They are more likely to believe in people’s right. People who are liberals believe in gay rights in abortion, in drug legalization. They tend to be more giving and less judging to the poor and the needy. Liberals tend to believe in the truth, in the issue of climate change they believe that climate change is a real thing and evolution is a thing. There is a value on being liberal, because liberals tends to be more honest.

Lastly, people are so hung up with the labels that they are using. Humans are humans. Get over with the labels and we should be humans. Labels are dumb if we are generalizing, like Conservatives are dumb, because there are conservatives who are intelligent and liberals that are dumb.
