Second Amendment: Hidden History

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

June 21, 2016

Last week america had an incident, the worst mass shooting in its history and the worst terrorist attack since September 11, 2001. In Orlando Florida,  in a LGBT night club. Naturally people blame the second amendment and america’s lacks gun laws in this incident. In todays blog we are talking about the hidden history of the gun amendment also known as the second amendment.

I did not know this I just heard this on Kyle Kulinski’s show Secular Talk a radio show on the internet last week. He mention that the second amendment is use to preserve slavery. Wow. I can not get that out of my mind. Obviously I rush to the internet and research the history of this amendment, to my surprise Kyle is right.

So why is it that they put “a well regulated  militia necessary for a free state” instead of for a free country, the founders are aware of that though. (Please check out the 10th amendment) because the needed to preserve slavery to get Virginia to join the union, America needed to compromise, because Virginia is a slave state.

The line where there is the right of the people to keep and bare arms is use, to the people of the militia or slave patrol, it did not say individual. In the these states their’s slave patrol so you need guns. The slave owner wants to make sure that that there slaves are in check. Do not tell me that it says individual because it does not.

What the supreme court on the case District of Columbia vs Heller is wrong, because people do not have a right to buy guns. The justices give the gun lobby namely the NRA more power than it deserves. You have no right according to James Madison to a weapon of mass distraction.

Lastly, people died in an elementary school,  in a high school, in universities, in a movie theatre, a church, in a work place, now the latest is in a night club. Is this added to Americas great traditions.

Finally, What the heck! america. Please stop with all the shootings. Let us think of people that died, guys. To the senators who voted NO to basically stoping a shooting like this from ever happening again: YOU HAVE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS.`

America: Stop with all the shootings

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

June 14, 2016

When something like this happened, I am become completely numb about shootings like this, it’s just another shooting in america. This one is no deferent at first, Sunday morning I was checking my twitter. I saw there have been another shooting in orlando. Not again I said to my self, This is like deja vu because there is one Friday night, But as I read the twits, the news: I said to my self WOW this is unbelievable. 50 people are dead Wow, What is unsettling is who the victims are. This is in a gay club. Wow

The question always when this happen is Why? This is a hate crime, this person wants to bring fear to the gay community. His father said he hated gays kissing. This is one of the effects of radical religious believe, even if its not direct. People need to stop defending islam.

I hate when people say: Oh its there culture blah blah blah. You mean it’s there culture to kill innocent people because they do not agree with their “LIFESTYLE”. I hate this so much, this well meaning people, this are liberal progressive people. I know muslims have a bad wrap in america, but duh….

Do not get me started on the gun issue, Here we go again, America, after the Sandy Hook shootings which killed young kids, I thought the lesson had been learned. We need it, but as we all know the NRA will not be happy. What we need is what Bernie Sanders advocates for, A POLITICAL REVOLUTION. To people who say the we can not do it because gun control, Republicans do not want it, excuse me, people who identify as Republicans, I mean your run of a mill republicans want gun control.

The problem is the Democratic Party, Who does not know how to promote shit (sorry for the vulgar language). I can not believe  after Sandy Hook and 90 percent of Americans support gun control. After only one try they gave up. What the heck! If I were the democrats I would say to the electorate look at the republicans, they do not represent you, and I will start from there.

Finally, This is very sad because first this month is LGBT pride month and it should be a fun occasion but secondly this hits so close to home,  I never had spoken about this before on this blog but I am Bisexual. People need to come out because if they do it will help the send a message that we are who we and are no one can stop us.

LGBT History: Proposition 8

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

April 13, 2016

In 2007 when California first legalize marriage equality and after only a year in one of the biggest campaign of against human rights, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints successfully undo the success of the LGBT community in  California. The mormon church and other religious organization successfully put marriage in the ballot in the 2008 elections and won by a short margin.

A little background for you, as soon as 2004 San Fransisco mayor Gavin Newsom for valentine’s day he decided to gave out marriage licenses to people of the same sex. Partly because he grew up in San Fransisco and knew a lot of gay people saw the humanity in them.

By 2007 the Californian house and senate passes a marriage equality law. The Republican governor, governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has no problem signing it to law.

By the next year, there is a challenge to the marriage law brought by conservatives that said the usual anti-LGBT arguments, they have been saying for decades. The LGBT rights groups assumes that the measure will not pass in liberal California, but they were wrong.

The measure was called proposition 8, backers of prop 8 are churches,  including the Mormon Church who pour in a lot of money into this hateful cause. They run advertisements on Television telling Californians awful gay people are. The Church put up countless lies about gay relationships.

The pro LGBT groups some how lost sight of what they fighting for. They run advertisement, about how the law is and how unfair it is for them. They made a mistake though they never put LGBT people on their ads. People will not mind hurting you if they do not who they are hurting.

Election Day 2008 came, the LGBT groups, are very confident that they are going to win. But the better marketing of the opponent worked. They market it as if their is something wrong with gay people. They lied to Californians by their ads.

Gay Marriage advocates cheer during a rally moments before hearing the news of the Proposition 8 over-ruling outside the Ninth Circuit Courthouse in San Francisco

The LGBT groups learn their lessons after prop 8 they filled a lawsuit and won in 2013, they also won in the court of public opinion. they run good advertisement that ultimately change hearts and minds.

Why the Golden Rule is golden

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte
 February 8, 2016

I was watching a pastor give a sermon on homosexuality in the Internet last weekend. And how homosexuality is a sin. I would admit that for a second I buy in to what he is saying. Thankfully, I used my mind and said to my self how can it be, he is wrong. Homosexuality is not bad. And it can not be a sin. Here is why.

The answer is the Golden Rule: Do not do to others as you do not like others to do to you. In the modern term: Do what ever you want to do, unless you are hurting somebody else. The golden rule is a rational piece of advice for people because it deals with every and any crime. It is about consent and not control.

The golden rule can apply to the simplest of crimes to the most gruesome ones. By knowing the magic word, that is consent: for example you took someone’s candy without the permission of the person, in my opinion you are sinning and that is wrong. For example your mother is dying at the hospital and to ease her pain. You allow her to die because of a written form (a DNR), then you are not sinning.

So how does this apply to homosexuality? Rape a is crime for a reason because the person did not consent to another person. Pedophilia is a crime because a young child can not consent to an adult, they are too young. Homosexuality is not a crime because this are two consenting adults doing what they want in the privacy of their homes. How can it be a sin.

Lastly , how can loving another person be a sin. I can not understand that. People do not get that homosexuality is not about having sex all the time it is also about love and commitment. Finally, People are so focus on sex, why not focus on the poor and the needy.

The person that change my life: Adam Lambert

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte
January 22, 2016

There are some people that when you first see or encountered changes your path on life. I know he can not read this but I want to be known that I love him. I know we might not cross paths but I love everything about him and his life. His name is Adam Lambert and I want to write a letter to him to let him know how I feel about him.

Dear; Adam,

Like most of your fans I first saw you on the talent show American Idol, you are first auditioning for the show singing Bohemian Rhapsody by my dad’s favorite band Queen. You made it through the finale against your roommate on the show Kris Allen. I was so devastated, when he won because I know that you are more talented than he is.

Two weeks later you came out of the closet about your sexuality, that you are gay. I was a young Catholic kid back then and did not know what to feel about you. I saw all of those pictures you, kissing another boy in but I did not know how I will feel. But I know that I love you and wanted my idol to be happy.

Adam, because of you I became more civically aware. I became a gay rights activists certainly because of your influence. I am a lot open minded. If I have not known you I will definitely not be the person that I am today. You changed my perspective on life.

Adam, you mean so much to me. I love your music. You are such a talented person. You are a great guy. I really love you as a person. You are my life changer, you are my inspiration. Keep on doing inspiring things, keep on inspiring people.

Yours truly,

This week in LGBT: the dangers of a Republican President

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte January 20, 2016

This summer the Supreme Court of the United States in a landmark decision gave full civil marriage rights to gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals. Now, as we know Election Day is in November. If a republican wins the biggest challenge is how are we going to protect our rights as individuals, what do I mean by that?

As we all know the Republican Party is a Conservative party, they are hostile to the LGBT community. Not a single person running for president in the Republican Party is for marriage equality, not one. Wow, even Ran Paul a libertarian. And everyone is not in favor of work place protections. I am very sicken by how these people can say or do that.

People should be aware that marriage equality can be repealed. By doing a constitutional amendment. And also a catch 22 the justices that decided on the marriage ban are old. I think that justice Sotomayor and Justice Kagan are the youngest. And the rest is in their 70’s and Justice Ginsburg is 82. If a republican wins and there is challenge on marriage equality, the president appoints the Justices, all our successes will vanish in thin air.

One more thing, The Equality Act a law protecting LGBT’s from workplace discrimination, is never going to pass in a republican controlled house of representatives, senate, White House and Supreme Court. Transgendered people in particular will not be able to thrive, they will further become a second class citizen.

Lastly, young people specially need to register and vote that is the only way that we can combat homophobia in the macro level, guys, my final word is this, this fight is not over, there are still some things that should be done. People should be able top think a head and we should win this fight.

My interview with Kyle Kulinski

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

January 1, 2016

On February of last year I interviewed Kyle Kulinski for my first blog, American P&P. He is a radio host from New York City who has a YouTube channel Secular Talk. A liberal radio show that is a part of The Young Turks Network. Kyle said in his podcast Kyle and Corin that he will do interviews with people I jump in and said that I want to do an interview about News and politics and he agreed. I love this man, I hope you enjoy my very first interview.

1. I know you are opposed to US involvement in Iraq, but as a Filipino they are such great help , what do you think of the US involvement in the Philippines?
As far as worldwide military intervention goes, my standard is basically non-intervenion. I fully reject all offensive wars, and would only use the military to defend against imminent attack against the U.S. homeland. The only exception to this standard is to stop a genocide. In the case of a genocide, I would go through the UN, NATO, and the US Congress for approval, and after getting it would only act with the international community also aiding in the fight. For any other humanitarian intervention or aid to other countries, I would be in favor, but to a minimal degree. these issues would have to go through the congress though, and they would have to determine how much aid we give, and where we give it to.

2. What do you want on immigration reform in America?
I prefer full amnesty for all undocumented immigrants currently in the country and assimilated. However, after granting blanket amnesty I’d be in favor of fairly strict rules and regulations and border protection to prevent increased flow.

3. What do you think of pope Francis?
Pope Francis is basically as good as it’s gonna get in terms of a religious figure who advocates for peace. He’s done great things to help the poor, the homeless, the hungry etc. I think he means well and he’s trying to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. As far as disagreements, he supports exorcisms and wasn’t very strong on the issue of free speech. But like I said I don’t think I’ll ever 100% agree with a religious figure so he’s likely as close as it’ll get.
4. Who is your favorite US politician and why?

My favorite U.S. politician is probably either Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren… As far as I can tell they’re basically 80-90% in agreement with my politics. Bernie is great because he’s really passionate about fighting for the middle class and ending the pseud-oligarchy in the U.S. and Liz is great because she has mainstream appeal and she’s still very progressive.
5. I know you love the NBA, who do you think will win the NBA championship this year?

Tough question. The Warriors are great but their style of play may not lead to playoff victories. I’ll say either the Hawks or the Mavericks. This is the most up in the air year though for the NBA because so many teams are great, there’s no clear favorite.
Thanks, Kyle
Happy Happy New Year

My Year end special: My top five favorite stories of the year and my person of the year

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte

December 30, 2015
5. Donald Trump entering the race for the White House- Do not get me wrong I hate this person a lot because of what he is saying. He have said some of the nastiest stuff in this election cycle, but do not get me wrong it is so much fun to watch. My favorite is when he attacked Carly Fiorina and said he would not like to see that face in the White House.

4. The Charlie Hebdo Attacks- this is not my favorite story at all but this informs how I write, before the Charlie Hebdo attacks I am really scared of speaking my mind out but after the attacks at Charlie Hebdo, I said to my self that I really need to write about the issues that I care mostly about, like equality.

3. The 2016 presidential elections specially the republican debates- this had been a weird year as far as election is concern, as i said, since Mr Trump had entered the race, America has been fixated on him but not talking about the issues at hand.

2. The Syrian Refugee Crisis- This is such a sad story that I could not even believe that I will be writing this on the blog, but it need to be talk about. The Syrian civil war have so many innocent lives taken from us. The best thing we can do is help people in need. Do not be scared of Muslim refugees. America has the most robust screening process of refugees In the world.

My favorite story of the year is Marriage equality in the USA: On 26 June of this year the United States Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision, states that marriage is a right under the 14th Amendment of the constitution. I think that it will be a stepping stone for many countries to do the same.

My person of the year will be Donald Trump

Special: Christmas For Non Religious

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte
December 23, 2015

Note: I am speaking for myself and not for anyone else.
As you probably know by now I am not religious. Even though I still consider myself as culturally Catholic, The reason being is that I do not want to affiliate my self with people who are hateful and wrong. This holiday season I want to write about what Christmas means to me.

In America, Christmas is a secular holiday, celebrated by folks of all types of religious affiliation. Christmas is one of the most important events for most of us. In fact 90 percent of Americans celebrate it. Just over 70 percent are Christians.

For me what is Christmas, In a nutshell Christmas is about giving, Christmas is spending time with family, it is about the food, that Christmas ham. It is about gifts on the Christmas tree. it is about the music we hear, my favorite being; John Lennon’s, Happy Christmas: War Is Over.

Christmas is about giving and sharing. Christmas is now more than the baby Jesus, though he is still a big part of it. Christmas has evolved to a global holiday celebrated by billions.

Finally, do not get mad at Starbucks for doing a red cup without the decorations. And at people when they say happy holidays instead of marry Christmas. Because not all people think like you. Finally, I want to wish people a Marry Christmas and a happy new

My thoughts on climate change

Joaquin Tenedora-Forte December 4, 2015

At this time each year there is this conference for world leaders to talk about climate change. For those people who are saying that climate change is not real, think again. Climate change is real and that scientists say it maybe too late to fix its effects. The globe is warming, and sea levels are rising, people dying. What can we do?
Getting money out of politics is the key, because when we have clean elections, so that the politicians will not be searching for money from The big bad Petroleum companies. Corruption is what is the root cause of all of this

mess. As we all know the biggest cause of climate change is the use of fossil fuel. We need to stick with clean energy.

According to a consolidation study by the United Nations, scientists agreed that human activity affects Climate change. We humans are destroying our own planet by using fossil fuel like, gasoline and diesel. People should not be in denial about something as serious as this where in people are dying because of the use of such items.

I know this because I am a Filipino and as we know the Philippines suffered one of the most devastating typhoon/hurricane in recorded history. Super Typhoon Haiyan or its local name Yolanda. On November 7, 2013, Yolanda struck the city of Tacloban, killing more than seven thousand. This totally change my mind on climate change, I am a very big skeptic back then but Haiyan I completely changed my mind.

Lastly, we should live the world better as we founded it. We should combat this war on climate change. People today should take care of this planet. So that our grandchildren and their grandchildren will have a great stay in this world. Finally, people should believe that they are the reason why the world is warming,
